From the desk of Rose (as translated by ADNUS)

Hi Mom,

Its been a week and half since you left me with Aunt Disha and Uncle Sid and I just wanted to tell you, that life’s been good, even grand at times. Aunty Dish and Uncle Sid (ADNUS) are quite jolly people.

ADNUS

They have a different accent when they speak and sometimes when they say stuff, I am lost. I don’t intend to be disobedient; I just take time to understand what they are saying. But now, after a week, my hearing is all tuned up.

Let me quickly tell you my schedule, before I dwell deeper into their personalities (pretty deep, huh?) I sleep on the living room couch in the night, but at 6.00AM I enter ADNUS’s bedroom and start furiously wagging my tail. There are also days where Uncle Sid wakes up at 4.30 to watch something on TV. I think it’s some kind of sporting event. He even spent time explaining it to me and told me to cheer for Mom’s team (USA). He also used some really nasty words when the referee made some horrible decisions against USA. I wish he didn’t get so stressed out. It may be a ‘world game’, but in the grander scheme of things, its still JUST A GAME.

Uncle Sid

Uncle Sid is the morning person among the two and he will look sheepishly at Aunty Dish and ask me to jump onto the bed. They recently bought an electric blanket and I tell you, it’s the best thing in this winter. Then, Uncle Sid wakes up and after drinking a cup of tea, he tries one of several attempts to wake Aunty Dish up. Then, he puts on his jumper. The minute he does that I know its time for my morning walk. He gets my leash from the kitchen and off we go to Connor Reserve. It’s the park right behind their house, which I am really fond of. For the first couple of days, he would put me on a leash the entire time, but now, he just lets me run around wild and free. I can tell Uncle Sid has never had a dog of his own because he struggled to collect my poopy the first couple of days, but now, he does it like a pro and he may consider dog-walking as an alternate profession.

He also uses this thing called ‘Foursquare’ which he uses to ‘check-in’ to the park so he can become the ‘mayor’ of the park. He tried explaining it to me, I just thought it was really nerdy and not a strong enough business model.

After a good 30 min in the park, we come home famished and Aunty Dish is ready with both our breakfasts. Once she wakes up, she is super fast and active and my eyes can hardly keep up with her movements. Then, both of them take a shower and leave for work and I safely stretch out on their bed and catch some shut-eye.

In the evenings, it’s flexible on who takes me out. If Uncle Sid goes to the gym [which he hasn’t been too regular due to the inclement weather] Aunty Dish takes me out, but otherwise Uncle Sid and I get to spend some more quality time together. Then its back home and dinner awaits. After dinner, Aunty Dish watches some guys and girls cook a whole bunch of cool stuff on TV. I think it’s called Masterchef and Aunt Dish seems obsessed by it. After that ADNUS have their dinner in the kitchen below which I am not a part of. Uncle Sid did a great job explaining to me why they needed that time alone. I get it, for the most part. Its also a good time to play with my pet dog and act unruly and growl. Every dog needs its alone time, right?

Mom, Uncle Sid loves the camera just like you. He is working on this album called ‘A day in the life of Rose’ which he plans to work on during the weekend. Last weekend, we went for a walk to Sydney College of Arts campus for an hour and a half and all he did was take my pictures. I felt like Angelina Jolie, to be honest. Let me know when he sends it to you.

How is the traveling treating you Mom? I saw some pictures of Japan and it was really cool. Heard about the men staring at you in India. While I understand that it is absolutely painful, men stare at you in most places you go. Aunty Dish calls it beauty’s curse.

That’s it for now, Mom….its raining here but I still have to go out for walk.

Miss you…

Love,

Rose.

I type 50 words per minute.
