The brig
I'm losing count of the days. One blends into another. Block 5, cell 127.
There's a constant stream of barking. Barking, barking, barking. Will it ever stop?
I lay here - 24/7 - and stare out into the sea of wire and concrete. But mostly, I sleep.
I get two meals a day, but it's never enough. I always want more. They say I'm a "good eater". Well, that's putting it mildly.
I think they're keeping my mom in a cell down the hall. Once in a while they bring her in to visit me. She seems really excited to see me. I smile and wiggle and jump up and down so she knows they haven't broken my spirit.
I see they're feeding her better than they're feeding me. Cheese, pieces of chicken breast - even wet dog food. She sneaks them into my cell.
When she visits me they lock us both in this cell for 2 hours and she's not able to leave. There we are. Laying on the concrete floor. In lock-up - together.
I've been plotting my escape. I'm starting to understand their patterns. My captors. Feeding times... visitation hours... There's a schedule. I tried to make a break for it last time they brought Mom to visit, but my attempt was thwarted. In fact, I think Mom may have blocked me with her legs??!! But that can't be. I will try again.
Mom did bring me the The Chicken and The Rope. And also the pillow I sleep on in the living room. I wonder how that got out here?
I'm not sure why I ended up in this "petitentiary". They must have noticed I've been eating the cat food. That's about all I ever do wrong. Speaking of cat food, where are those cats anyway?
But I'm starting to like my captors a little bit. I think it's called Stockholm Sydnrome. I have started to look forward to my "carer", Carol-Anne's visits. She has such a nice accent. I wonder where she's from?
I wonder when Mom will visit again?
Yours Truly,
Rose
